Inauguration of the infrastructure for the implementation of the SpIRIT satellite (Space Industry Responsive Intelligent Thermal). Melbourne University Space Lab, March 7, 2022

Consul General Hanna Pappalardo attended on March 7, 2002, together with the Head of the Australian Space Agency, Enrico Palermo, the official inauguration of an important infrastructure dedicated to the implementation of the SpIRIT satellite (Space Industry Responsive Intelligent Thermal), a scientific and industrial cooperation between Italy and Australia and the Space Agencies of the two countries. The ceremony has taken place at the Space Laboratory of the University of Melbourne who will implement the project under the leadership of its Principal Investigator, Professor Michele Trenti.

The Consul General has underscored the importance of SpIRIT as a strong manifestation of the common ambition in the research and use of Space that Italy and Australia share as like-minded parters stemming from the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Italian and Australian Space Agencies in 2019. She has also highlighted that SpIRIT is not only a milestone in the robust partnership between Italy and Australia in a strategic sector but also a gateway for future industrial cooperation in light of the presence on the Australian market of important Italian companies such as SITAEL, LEONARDO, e-GEOS and MERMEC.
