Consular Services and Visas

In cases of proven urgency, which will be assessed by a Consular Officer, Italian citizens can make use of consular services under urgent procedure.

For these applications, the applicant will have to pay an urgency fee in addition to the fee required for the service.

The urgency must be justified by:

• serious family or health reasons, certified by public or private structures or competent authorities;
• unavoidable work needs, proven by a motivated request signed by the relevant manager (complete with name, role and telephone number of the signee) and drawn up on the employer’s letterhead and by providing flight reservation or other travel document.

Please note that the benefits of the urgency procedure cannot in any way be extended to the family members of the holder.

If the applicant is not registered with AIRE, for the issuance of the passport, the Office must acquire the authorization from the competent Questura. Without this, the passport cannot be issued even in cases of emergency.
