National Visas (from 91 to 365 days in Italy)

Visas of this category allow holders to stay in Italy from 91 to 365 days for purposes of study, work or permanent residency only. Throughout the duration of the visa, holders may also spend up to 90 days, in each 6-month period, in any other Schengen country for tourism purposes only.

Please note: If you are older than 35 and/or cannot apply for a Working Holiday Visa, you will not be able to stay in Italy for tourism purposes for more than 90 days.

RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR ITALY’S NATIONAL VISA HOLDERS

Within 8 days from entering Italy, long stay National visa-holders must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) from the local Police Station (Questura). You can click here for more information.

EMERGENCY / URGENT VISA APPLICATIONS

Emergency / urgent visa applications, can only be accepted in specific and limited circumstances to be assessed case by case by the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne.

We can accept emergency / urgency visa applications for the following categories of applicants only:

  • Applicants that have to be admitted into Public or Private hospitals in Italy. A medical certificate issued by an accredited Health Institution in Italy must be provided as proof of admission
  • Applicants going to Italy to be employed by an Italian sponsor company / professional sport club (NOT working holiday visa). Applications to be submitted by sponsor company / professional sport club with the Italian Immigration Office (“SUI”) / Italian Sport Committee (“CONI”) and approval issued by SUI / CONI to be provided when applying for visa

HAVING ENROLLED INTO A COURSE, PRE-PURCHASED YOUR FLIGHTS, TRANSPORTS, ACCOMMODATION, ACTIVITIES, INSURANCE, ETC. DOES NOT QUALIFY TO APPLY FOR AN URGENT PROCEDURE.
