The Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne accepts applications for visas only from Victorian or Tasmanian residents.

There are only two categories of visas processed at this Consulate General:
SHORT – TERM SCHENGEN VISA
(to stay from 1 to 90 days in the Schengen area)
LONG – TERM ITALY’S NATIONAL VISA
(To stay from 91 to 365 days in Italy)
Australian citizens are allowed to visit any of the Schengen countries without a visa for a period of up to 90 days in each 6-month period for purposes of tourism or study.
EU citizens will not require a visa to enter, stay and/or work in any of the Schengen countries.
Please note: This Consulate General reserves the right to reject visa applications. In order to obtain any type of visa you will need to fulfill specific requirements outlined in the relevant pages of our website (see above).
Europe is not a Federal entity. Each Member State of the EU has its own rules on visa and residency. There is no such visa that allows applicants to stay in the Schengen area for longer than 90 days. Long-stay visas can only be obtained from one specific country and allow holders to stay for more than 90 days in the country issuing the visa only.
