{"id":420,"date":"2023-02-14T05:37:08","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T04:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consmelbourne.esteri.it\/?page_id=420"},"modified":"2025-11-26T02:28:43","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T01:28:43","slug":"birth-marriage-divorce-and-death-registration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consmelbourne.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/birth-marriage-divorce-and-death-registration\/","title":{"rendered":"Marriage, civil union, divorce and death registration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For information on how to register a birth, a marriage, a death or a divorce, you can click on the list below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT UPDATE ON BIRTH REGISTRATIONS from 24\/05\/2025 <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/consmelbourne.esteri.it\/it\/news\/dal_consolato\/2025\/06\/registrazione-degli-atti-di-nascita-figli-minorenni\/\">click here<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Registration of marriage\/civil union(appointment NOT needed)<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>If you are an Italian citizen and you get married, you need to register your marriage\/civil union at our offices.<\/p>\n<p>You can come to our offices during <a href=\"https:\/\/consmelbourne.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/contatti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opening hours<\/a> and submit the following documents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marriage registration <a href=\"https:\/\/consmelbourne.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/MODULO-MATRIMONIO.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Copies of both spouses\u2019 ID (preferibly passport)<\/li>\n<li>Original marriage\/civil union certificate <u>with Apostille<\/u><\/li>\n<li>Translation into Italian of the marriage\/civil union certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Registration of death (appointment NOT needed)<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the deceased was NOT already registered with us, <u>proof of Italian citizenship <\/u>is needed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can come to our offices during <u>opening hours<\/u> and submit the following documents:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Original Death Certificate <u>with Apostille;<\/u><\/li>\n<li>Translation into Italian of the death certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Registration of divorce (appointment needed)<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In case of divorce you need to register it with us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You <strong>need to book an appointment<\/strong> throught the automatic booking system <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prenot@mi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You will need to present:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Original divorce order with authentic stamp of the Court, and <u>Apostille<\/u>;<\/li>\n<li>Translation into Italian of the divorce certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IMPORTANT: A divorce obtained abroad becomes effective in Italy <u>only after being recorded in the civil<\/u> registry of the relevant Municipality.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For information on how to register a birth, a marriage, a death or a divorce, you can click on the list below.
