Italian Health Care Card
The Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne does not issue nor renew italian health care cards. Should your card be lost, damaged or stolen, please contact the ASL office closest to your municipality in Italy.
By registering with AIRE you will lose eligibility to receive health care in Italy, thus you will no longer be able to seek renewl or a duplicate of that card. It will still be possible to access temporary health care, should your stay in Italy not exceed 90 days. You must first complete this form and visit the Consulate where it will be stamped.
Only Italian citizens who are emigrants can benefit from temporary health care (those citizens who have acquired Italian citizenship and were born in Italy). Any person who benefits from any pension granted by the Italian state can also access this form of health care.
Australian Medicare
The Consulate General cannot provide any information on the application process for Medicare, available to Italian citizens in Australia through the reciprocal health care agreement. For further information, please click here.
