Issue of an Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

Issue of an Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

If Italian citizens find themselves in an emergency (e.g. a tourist in transit with a flight leaving shortly and whose passport is lost or stolen), the Consulate General will issue an ETD (Emergency Travel Document). This document is valid for 5 days only for the return journey to Italy or to the country of legal residence (proven by AIRE registration).

To obtain the ETD document, you must come to the Consulate no sooner than 5 days from the date of departure with the following documentation:

  1. Form for reporting loss or theft of passport, completed and signed (click here for the form)
  2. 2 identical photographs (size 35 X 45 mm, forward facing, colour with white background. The face must occupy 70% of the photo.)
  3. photocopy of an identity card or driver's license or photocopy of your lost/stolen passport. Failing this, the Consulate will carry out the appropriate investigations of identity before issuing the ETD
  4. Photocopy of the airline ticket
  5. Cash payment in Australian dollars, the amount corresponding to the current exchange rate of Euro 1.55.
