COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) - NEWS AND INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS

From the early stages in which the epidemic was identified, the Italian Government was quick to respond and continues to adopt all of the measures, deemed scientifically necessary to contain it.

TRAVEL TO ITALY

Following the Prime Ministerial Decree issued on the 22nd March 2020, enter into Italy from non - EU/Schengen countries (including Australia) is strictly forbidden until at least the 15th June 2020, except for those who have valid reasons such as for work, particular necessities or health concerns.

The above-mentioned restrictions are valid both for Italian citizens and for foreigners. Entry into Italy for tourism purposes is therefore also banned.

EU citizens and citizens of the Schengen Associated States, and their family members, third-country nationals who are long-term residents under the Long-term Residence Directive and persons deriving their right to reside from other EU Directives or national law or who hold national long-term visas are still allowed to re-enter Italy to return home to one’s usual place of residence. Those returning home must complete a self-certification form to justify their movements between different regions in Italy and a travel form in case that it were to be requested by the carrier / authorities. Residents must also communicate their arrival to the ASL (local healthcare office) and self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

Prior to departure, it is advisable to contact your transport provider (air carrier/ train or bus companies) to ensure that transportation is not cancelled, changed or postponed, especially at points of transit.
